Winter Wonderland Gets Everyone in the Holiday Spirit

On December 8th, holiday crowds flocked to meet Santa, shop for gifts, and get in the holiday spirit, making this YWCA New Britain’s most successful Winter Wonderland celebration yet!

Once a pancake breakfast and dance performance, the event has evolved over the past seven years to become a prominent holiday staple and celebration for the entire community.

Over 300 guests filled their arms with gifts such as sparkling jewelry from Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski, handcrafted soap from Wholly Goat Farm, assorted candles from Little Bella’s Candle Co., and products from over 30 other vendors.  Whether you were enjoying a Homemade Coquito by Nina or a freshly made empanada prepared by YWCA’s STRIVE girls, the refreshments were also a delicious treat.

In addition, the event featured a children’s boutique where kids were able to buy $1 gifts for their family members and friends.  Santa made a special visit and families were able to take their photos with him.  Children also visited the balloon animal booth and the craft area, made ornaments, colored holiday pictures, and wrote their wish lists to Santa Claus.

Guests were able to further their holiday celebration by attending the “Happy Holidays from Around the World” Show performed by YWCA New Britain School of Dance.   Performing Arts Director Chris Kuzia says, “We chose holiday songs from different countries, many of which were important in our performers’ upbringings.  Our dancers loved being in the show and came together to help transform the room into a true Winter Wonderland.”   The show introduced music from the U.S., Ukraine, Mexico, Jamaica, Ireland, Germany, China, and Norway.  The dancers summed up the performance with It’s a Small World as their finale song.

Thanks to all the vendors, volunteers, staff, and guests for celebrating the holidays with us!
