Virtual Evening of Treasures Raises Funds for YWCA’s Programs and Services

YWCA New Britain’s 27th Annual Evening of Treasures Auction was unlike any other. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fundraising event’s bidding, mingling, and activities all took place on virtual platforms for the first time.

Supporters and friends gathered for the virtual Evening of Treasures event on November 6. The Mission: Possible-themed night included a cocktail making activity led by Chelsea Solkowski, bar manager at The Charles. After making Vesper Martinis, attendees learned how the YWCA has been operating during the pandemic and watched a message from Persimmon sponsor Webster Bank.

The YWCA also held a cash raffle drawing during the event. Prior to the auction, volunteers and friends sold $20 raffle tickets for the chance to win one of three cash prizes. Thank you to everyone who sold and purchased raffle tickets, and congratulations to the winners!

The November 6 event wrapped up five exciting days of bidding. This year’s online auction featured over 130 items ranging from gift cards and gift baskets to electronics and getaways. Thank you to the generous organizations and individuals who donated items to be used as auction prizes, and to all who used our online platform to bid on items.

We’d also like to send a special thank you to our sponsors: Persimmon sponsor Webster Bank; Platinum sponsors Creed Monarch and People's United Bank; Gold sponsors Associated Insurance Services, The Hospital of Central Connecticut, People's United Insurance Agency, and the New Britain Herald; and Silver sponsors Anthem, Central Connecticut State University, Hospital for Special Care, and Janney Montgomery Scott.

“Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19 this year and the need to change to a virtual format, we were pleased by the auction’s success,” said YWCA New Britain Executive Director Tracey Madden-Hennessey. “Thanks to all those who continue to support us in our work. Your bids, donations, and raffle participation all helped make this possible!”

The Evening of Treasures is a major fundraiser for YWCA’s programs and services for women and families. We look forward to seeing everyone for the 28th year in 2021!
